NVAA Program of Study
A four-year sequence of all-honors performance and technical theatre coursework, culminating in the Arizona Arts Seal and the NVAA honors diploma seal.

NVAA is the only theatre program in Arizona to offer honors-level coursework across every grade, in both the performance and technical tracks.
9th Grade
Honors Movement & Voice for the Actor
Develops vocal and physical performance skills, using the entire physical instrument to create and perform character. Techniques include Laban, Viewpoints, and Linklater.
Honors Set Design & Construction
The art of set design — design sketches, models, drafting, and woodworking. Students finish with a basic to intermediate understanding of set construction and portfolio work.
10th Grade
Honors Musical Theatre & Film Acting
Technical skills for musical theatre and film through group and solo work, plus the business of the professional actor — agents, unions, and casting directors.
Honors Costume & Makeup Design
Design and construct costumes and develop makeup application techniques, learning from professionals across the U.S. Completed work is added to student portfolios.
11th Grade
Honors Shakespeare & American Realism
An in-depth exploration of professional acting methods. First semester focuses on reading, interpreting, and performing Shakespeare; second semester studies Meisner and Chubbuck realism techniques.
Honors Lighting & Sound Design
Techniques, terminology, and technology for the design and operation of lighting, sound, and rigging. Completed work is added to student portfolios.
12th Grade
Honors Directing & Exit Portfolio
Students build a mock theatre company, learn to lead and direct actors, and stage a public performance — culminating in a college-ready portfolio and the Arizona Arts & NVAA diploma seals.
Honors Stage Management & Exit Portfolio
Advanced leadership in stage management and technical direction, with major roles in designing, building, and running mainstage performances — earning the Arizona Arts & NVAA diploma seals.
